How is the Mexican-American culture reflected in the book?

I think that the book mainly reflects on the poverty and many hardships that some Mexican-American families must deal with.

I found this book to be somewhat unflinching in its portrayal of Mexican Americans. It certainly was not flattering, but it seemed to be speaking "truth". I agree that poverty is a terrible hardship that sometimes gets "romanticized". Certainly not so in this book

i think that Mexican-American culture is reflected in the book by the hardships that Manny's family had to go through and the way that the author uses spanish words to describe how Manny feels. It is also reflected when Manny and his family respect their elders by visiting his grandma because they know that it will make her happy to see them.

In the book Parrot in the Oven Manny's family is just a typical Mexican-American family. The hardships they face in the story is similar to what Mexican-American deal with today.
