The book Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez is a very capitaving story about a mexican-american boy who is trying to cope with the many problems around him. The main characters name is Manuel, also known as Manny. He is fourteen years old, living with family of five, and resides in the projects of Southern California. Manny's family struggles with many problems including poverty and many different types of abuse. The story is dynamic, dramatic, and alluring. The many different trials that Manny must face will have you reading this book from begining to end.

I think that the family's financial situation played a huge role in the story plot. I think that if the Hernandez family had been in a better financial situation many of the things that happened during the story would have never taken place.
In the story Manny's Family went through financial problems. This problem is very important in the plot because it shows what families go through when they have finacial problems. What Manny's family is going through is something all families do when their in need of money.
