The book Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez is a very capitaving story about a mexican-american boy who is trying to cope with the many problems around him. The main characters name is Manuel, also known as Manny. He is fourteen years old, living with family of five, and resides in the projects of Southern California. Manny's family struggles with many problems including poverty and many different types of abuse. The story is dynamic, dramatic, and alluring. The many different trials that Manny must face will have you reading this book from begining to end.

I don't agree with Manny's decision to join a gang. If you want to gain respect there are many other ways to do so.
I agree with Manny's decision to join a gang because He felt that he couldn't trust his family members and so he turned to his gang members. These are the people he relied on.
